What you’ll learn
What is carving?
Carving means turning by shifting the ski onto it’s edges where the side cuts into the snow so well that the skis do not slide, but bends into an arc, creating a turning motion. Ski racers try to carve all the time, as it is the quickest way down the mountain, and conserves as much of their speed as possible.
How we’ll proceed
We will practice the three essential principles that define a ski turn : initiation, shaping and transition. This helps you on the groomed piste in ice conditions but also to start your adventure outside the piste, because you will be able to asses, feel and better control your posture.
First step
We will begin with assessing your current riding style. You will learn the mechanics of the carved turn and how to practice the necessary steps to your progression.
How you’ll leave
During our lesson you will gain the necessary knowledge to asses your riding level and to make the necessary adjustments for your progression. Early edge engagement, speed control in short radius turns and variable snow terrain will become your friends.
You will leave with specific goals and drills to practice until our next meeting.
Learning curve

See (for) yourself
There’s a difference between what you think your body is doing and what it’s actually doing. Seeing yourself on video makes a big difference in learning from your mistakes.
It takes a while for your body to learn how to balance on your ski’s edges.

Your instructor holds the key
Skiing with an instructor who knows how to guide your progress is the key to success.
The fundamentals of carving are edging, balancing on the outside ski and maintaining a stable upper body.
